The Science Behind Copper Foil Tape

Copper is naturally antiviral and antibacterial. It even antibiotic resistant bacteria and superbugs like MRSA. So are copper alloys such as brass and bronze. This can help reduce the frequency of cleaning needed to keep frequently touched surfaces such as handles, switches, and buttons from transmitting pathogens. This self-sanitizing effect is not immediate, but can still contribute meaningfully to exposure reduction. After 1 hour, viruses have been significantly reduced (~75%), and after 6 hours almost eliminated. Though the copper surface will sanitize itself of viruses and bacteria, you will need to wipe off any dirt that could protect viruses from the copper.
